TFEX raises margins

Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX) is temporarily raising margins on oil, silver and dollar futures, ahead of the Songkran festival.

Effective on April 12, initial margin (IM) and maintenance margin (MM) on the three products will be raised. The IM for silver futures will be raised to Bt9,880 and its MM will be Bt6,916 per contract, while the IM for oil futures will be Bt19,380 and its MM will be Bt13,566 per contract. For dollar futures, the IM will be increased to Bt684 and the MM will be Bt478.80 per contract.
The market will be closed during the long holiday, while overseas markets remain open. The margin will be raised to cope with risks from price volatility that may occur while the foreign markets remain open.
"The margin requirements will return to normal after the week-long holiday on April 17 when the market re-opens. Thus, investors can withdraw their excess margins on that date," said TFEX Managing Director Kesara Manchusree.
