House to vote Thursday on charter-debate timetable

House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont has called a House meeting for Thursday to resolve the dispute over how many days lawmakers should spend scrutinising the charter-amendment bills.

He said the House would not spend a long time debating the timeframe issue, and would simply meet to vote on the matter. “If the meeting approves 60 days, we will take 60 days [to vet the bills]. House regulations clearly stipulate that we take 15 days unless the House votes otherwise,’’ he said.
The move comes after the Opposition threatened to seek a Constitution Court ruling on the timetable issue and to file an impeachment motion against Somsak.
