Thailand dodges power blackout

Thailand has escaped a possible energy crisis, thanks to the national energy-saving campaign and lower-than-expected temperatures, according to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) governor Sutas Patamasiriwat.

Total Exploration and Production Myanmar shut down its field for maintenance on April 5, leading to disruption in the supply of 1,100 million cubic feet of natural gas per day during the maintenance period.
Sutas said there were no blackouts or brownouts from April 5-12. During the period, power consumption peaked at 24,955 megawatts when the mercury hit 37.5 degrees Celsius, and 25,226MW when it was 38 degrees.
