PCD cracks down on industrial waste, promotes green labels

The Pollution Control Department (PCD) will propose to Cabinet measures to strictly control the movement across boundaries of industrial hazardous wastes after the discovery that 30 million tonnes of waste from manufacturers had been illegally transferred

PCD director-general Wichien Jungrungruang said his agency was drafting strict proposals to control industrial hazardous waste management and transboundary movement in a bid to prevent illegal dumping of toxic waste.
Under these measures, five provinces—Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Samut Prakarn, and Prachinburi—would be designated as strictly industrial hazardous waste areas, requiring local administrative agencies to closely watch their waste management and disposal.
