TAO to sue maker of pedestrian bridge

The Tha Luang Tambon Administration Organisation will sue the contractor of the pedestrian bridge that collapsed on April 28, killing five people and injuring several others, after the suspension cable that snapped was found to be substandard.

Officials from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office in Ayutthaya also said that the municipality will be sued by the Lawyers’ Council of Thailand on behalf of the victims.
Adisuk Khaonunar cited the initial report by the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) that the cables were defective and the cable clip on the bridge’s top was deteriorating, causing the bridge to sag.
Under heavy use the cable fastener fell apart, causing the left-hand cable to break, leading to the bridge giving way, he said.
The EIT will submit its final report next week.
Police investigation is continuing and should come to the same conclusion.
