Myanmar's Suu Kyi says she wants to be president

Naypyidaw - Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi wants to be president after the 2015 elections, the Nobel peace prize laureate said Thursday.

She confirmed her ambition at a meeting of the World Economic Forum in East Asia in Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw.

"I want to run for president," Suu Kyi said. "Let's be open: If I pretended I didn't want to, I would not be honest."   Under the current constitution passed by the military junta in 2008, Suu Kyi cannot become president because she was married to a foreigner.

She said the constitution would have to be amended and that her party, the National League for Democracy, was working on it.//DPA
