BRN to propose plan for curbing violence

An implementation plan on how to reduce violence during Ramadan in the far South will be submitted by Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) to coordinators in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre secretary-general Pol Colonel T

Thai officials will also submit a plan on how to reduce inspections during the Islamic holy month as well, he said.
The moves were a result of agreement by both sides to cut violence in the provinces during the month following a third round of peace talks earlier this month.
The BRN is reported to have clarified its proposal after some elements were deemed unclear by Thai negotiators after the dialogue.
Meanwhile, security camera footage yesterday revealed a leading Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) member, Abdulroseh Jarong, may have been involved in a bomb attack that injured three paramilitary rangers and three civilians in Muang district in Yala on Sunday, according to an intelligence source.
The footage showed two men on two motorcycles, who planted the bomb, riding the bikes and doing a U-turn towards Ban Sarong in Tambon Khao Matoom in Pattani’s Yarang district. This lead to suspicion they may be part of Abdulroseh’s group in Ban Sarong and had launched bomb attacks in Yala’s Muang district before, the source said.
At 8.30am yesterday, Yala Governor Dechrat Simsiri presented a royally-granted soil for the burial of Police Snr Sgt Major Abdul-Kareem Patalu, who was shot dead on June 17 while gathering intelligence and attending Muslim prayers at a Raman district mosque.
In Pattani, suspected insurgents launched a bomb attack at 8am on a six strong teacher-protection team in Tambon Kamiyor, wounding two privates.
Analysts have said the increase in violence ahead of Ramadan may stem from a desire by insurgents to create a visible drop of incidents during the holy month. They said insurgents may want to boost BRN’s credibility.
