An insurgent movement that is in talks with Thai authorities is expected to announce its intention to decrease the violence in the provinces of the deep south, starting from Wednesday.
Wednesday is the first day of Ramadan, when the Muslim people commence a period of fasting.
A high-ranking source said the expected announcement could be made via YouTube, the channel which Barisan Revolusi Nasional prefers to use to air its positions.
BRN is in dialogue with the Thai security authorities in a bid to solve the violence in the southern provinces of Thailand.
Thai dialogue chief Paradorn Pattanathabutr earlier said Thai agencies expect to see a decrease in violence in the deep south from Wednesday following a promise from and discussion with BRN.
A reduction in daily violence is one of the conditions that has been demanded by the Thai side during the dialogue with the BRN, said Paradorn.
