Delays in car import registration costing the nation, says Senate Committee

The Senate's Committee for Transport has urged the Land Transport Department to speed up the imported car registration procedure. It says delay could cause the country to lose income and create a chain of problems, including the annual car tax payment and

The committee’s chairman Ratchaburi Senator Kecha Saksomboon yesterday cited a report that some 4,000 imported cars were not registered. Some 1,500 of them were already on the streets without registration plates. Kecha’s comment was made after a committee meeting over car imports and retail car importers’ car registration.
Regarding the ongoing examination of luxurious cars, Kecha said he would invite Department of Special Investigation  officials to explain this case progress on July 11. Next week, the committee would also investigate imported cars reassembled in the Free Zone, he said. These cars used about 40 per cent of autoparts made in Thailand, and pay 20 per cent less in import tax, he said.
