Ex GPO chief lodges lawsuit for unfair dismissal

Former Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) chief Witit Artavatkun on Friday lodged a complaint with the Administrative Court asking for an emergency injunction over his reportedly unfair sacking. He urged the court to halt GPO's process for appo

Witit filed the lawsuit against the GPO board, GPO board chairman Pipat Yingseree, Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong and the Cabinet.
Witit asked the court to revoke the GPO’s May 17 order that terminated his contract and sacked him and to reinstate him as GPO chief.
Witit also urged the court to order the defendants to pay him a total of Bt49,653,600 in compensation.
Witit also asked the court to set temporary remedial measures during the trial, putting a halt to the GPO’s order to sack him as well as the order to appoint Pissamorn Klinsuwan as acting GPO chief. The measures would also prohibit the defendants from proceeding with the selection of his successor and accusing Witit of failing to perform his duty leading to the sacking through the media.
Witit said he hoped to get justice from the court and to be reinstated as the GPO chief, as his work contract still had two years to run. He filed civil and criminal lawsuits against the GPO board, chairman Pipat Yingseree and Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong, who had allegedly attempted to seek unlawful gains from the agency. If the agency were to have a new chief who complied with their orders without asking questions, the state could suffer from irreparable damage, he said.
Fifty residents of Samut Sakhon’s Ban Phaew district came to support him and presented him with flowers as he submitted the lawsuit to the court.
