Parents urged to supervise children playing in water

Public Health Minister Pradit Sintavanarong on Friday revealed 400 children have so far drowned this year, a high number than the deaths recorded from the current outbreak of dengue fever, which has resulted in 70 deaths this year.

Each year, Thailand sees some 1,000 deaths by drowning – most of them children under the age of 15 who were playing in water without adult supervision. He urged parents, teachers and guardians to carefully supervise children playing in water during the rainy season.
