US envoy Burns to hold talks with Egyptian officials

Cairo (dpa) - US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns will hold talks with members of Egypt's military-backed government on Monday, as rival protesters vowed to stage mass rallies.
Burns becomes the first US official to visit Cairo since the army overthrew Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.
"In all these meetings, he will underscore US support for the Egyptian people, an end to all violence, and a transition leading toan inclusive, democratically elected civilian government," the US State Department said.
