3 Chinese ships approach disputed islets

Tokyo (dpa) - Three Chinese navy ships entered what Japan calls its territorial waters surrounding disputed islets in the East China Sea on Thursday, the Japan Coast Guard said.

The incident came just a day after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited nearby islands.
The three vessels were spotted near the Japanese-administered Senkaku Islands, the Kyodo News agency reported. The islands are also claimed by China and Taiwan, where they are known as the Diaoyu and Tiaoyutai islands respectively.
