German consumer confidence at 6-yr high

Berlin (dpa) - German consumer confidence was measured at its highest level in six years for August amid expectations of higher wages and a solid labour market, according to a survey released Tuesday.

The Nuremberg-based GfK market research group said its forward-looking consumer sentiment indicator would edge up to 7 points in August from 6.8 in July. Analysts had expected the index
would climb to 6.9.
Based on a survey of about 2,000 households, the closely watched indicator is now at its highest level since September 2007, which was before the start of the global financial crisis.
