Sunthorn Kaensantia, 51, a resident of Tambon Suranaree, Muang district, said the early rains had helped speed up the blooming of flowers. Having planted jasmine in a 1-rai plot, he believes the blooms could fetch him at least Bt135,000 this month and he
could earn more if he turned the flowers into garlands.
“I receive orders for over 1,500 garlands per day, priced Bt20-Bt25 each,” he said, adding that from August 10 to 12, the orders could rise to more than 2,000 pieces.
His family is one of the 200 households that earn a living from growing jasmine flowers – a symbolic offering to mothers on August 12 every year. This village reportedly earns more than Bt20 million on this day each year.
