Surapong said he spoke on the phone to one of the four workers. He said the men, abducted last week while travelling to work at a fish farm on the Niger River, were taken and used as a bargaining chip by a group seeking claims to the local fish farming business.
Surapong said he was told they were well cared for while held captive and released after the “bargaining” was completed. He dismissed rumours that a Bt10-million ransom was paid for the workers’ release. He said he would visit the four during his trip to Nigeria from tomorrow and Tuesday.
