More Thais return from Egypt

The latest batch of Thais who had requested to leave Egypt arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday in two charter flights following the violent political protests there.

A total of 249 passengers arrived at Don Mueang Airport early Tuesday, bringing the total number of Thais returning home from Egypt to 603. Another 300 Thais remain there, out of whom 60 have stated their intention to leave the violencehit country. The Thai embassy in Cairo is booking commercial plane tickets for them to fly back home as soon as possible.

An announcement on the Facebook page of the Thai embassy in Cairo has urged all Thais and Thai students to be vigilant as supporters of deposed Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi are preparing a mass rally in Cairo with the possibility of the protests turning violent. Thais have been warned against going to the rally areas and been urged to stay in their residences and follow the situation closely.
