PTTGC's Bowon Vongsinudom and Rayong governor Wichit Chartpaisit led a group of PTTGC staff to the Visitor Centre at Khao Leam Ya in Mu Ko Samet National Park to pay the compensation to those whose lives have been affected by the accident.
The compensation was paid direct to the victims, Wichit noted.
Bank tellers were used to count the compensation and disburse it to affected people who included street food vendors, scuba instructors, masseurs, newspaper vendors and to operators of rental motorcycle, rental jet ski and ferry concessions.
A group of 500 affected fishermen is scheduled to receive compensation on Wednesday.
According to the Oil Spill Rehabilitation Center for Affected People, four groups of people were directly affected by the oil spill: fishermen, resort and hotel owners, those whose health had suffered and other occupations.
People who registered during July to August will be eligible to receive the compensation until the end of this month. Each of them will be paid Bt15,000 per month or Bt 500 a day. Fisherman will receive Bt30,000 a month.
Resort owners who suffered damage at more than Bt100,000 will receive compensation next month.
PTTGC has not defined a ceiling for the compensation, saying this will depend on evidence of the damage.
