Manhunt launched after Rohingya breakout in Nong Khai

A manhunt was launched yesterday for the 15 Rohingya men who broke out of Sang Khom Police Station in Nong Khai late on Tuesday night.

Col Sombat Nathaemploy, superintendent of the police station, Suchai Tangchupong, chief of Sang Khom district, and Pol Col Piti Nitinonthaset, chief of Nong Khai Immigration Police, inspected the cells in the morning after 15 out of the 19 Royingha men who had been detained there since September 7 escaped.
CCTV footage showed that they tied a blanket to two metal bar panels and pulled them out to make their getaway at midnight during heavy rain.
Some villagers living five kilometres from the police station reported seeing a group of men running into the woods behind Sakkali Ville in Tambon Kaeng Kai at about 4am.
