Pracha sends lawyer to appeal verdict in fire-truck case

Fugitive former interior minister Pracha Maleenont, who was last month sentenced to 12 years in jail for corruption in the 2004 purchase of fire boats and trucks, has sent his lawyer to appeal the guilty verdict.
Pracha was sentenced to jail by the Supreme Court on September 10 for his role in the Bt6.7-billion scandal.
His lawyer submitted the request on Monday, before the 30-day deadline for an appeal bid expired. His legal team has to come up with new evidence in a bid to persuade a five-member committee of Supreme Court judges to grant the appeal.
