Ex-Defence official gets jail term for failing to declare Bt13m in assets

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court sentenced former permanent-secretary of Defence Satien Permthong-in to two months in jail and a fine of Bt4,000 for false asset declaration.

However, he was given a suspended jail sentence, as he does not have a previous conviction.
Satien got into trouble for failing to report his and his wife’s assets worth Bt13 million after he left his post with the Public Warehouse Organisation’s board.
Satien is also banned from taking up any government jobs for five years from February 15, 2008 – the date he left his PWO executive post.
