Officials shoot dead 3 suspected insurgents in Pattani; one rebel suspect arrested

Three suspected insurgents were shot dead and one arrested in a shootout with security officials in Pattani on Tuesday, after the officials sealed off and raided a village in Thung Yang Daeng district.

No officials were injured in the operation.

One of the dead was identified as Mahama Sa-i, who was the subject of arrest warrants relating to several incidents, including the killing of a Border Patrol policeman in August. Identification of the two other bodies was under way at press time.

The arrested suspect was identified as Abdul Rahman Sala, who was wanted on two warrants.

The shootout began at around 4pm on Tuesday after a 70-strong team of security officials blockaded a village and conducted a search. A few men were seen fleeing to a rubber plantation behind the village, and a 20-minute shootout ensued.
