The three blasts in Namhkan, a town on the Myanmar-China border about 800 kilometres north of Yangon, followed a spate of explosions in Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing and Taungoo over the past week.
The first bomb went off Wednesday night outside a Buddhist pagoda in downtown Namhkan, severely injuring a 30-year-old man who later died in Namhkan hospital sources confirmed. Two other explosions were reported Thursday morning, leaving seven injured, police said.
It was not immediately clear whether the Namhkan blasts were related to a series of bombings using handmade devices in lower and central Myanmar since October 10.//DPA
