FA to investigate after assistant referee hit by flare

London - The Football Association said on Sunday it will investigate an incident in which an assistant referee was hit by a flare thrown by a fan during the Aston Villa-Tottenham match.

David Bryan was struck on the back of the neck and the match was delayed, and police said later they had arrested two men.
"The FA will investigate this matter, which is unacceptable," the FA said.
"We will await the match officials' report and will be speaking to the clubs. Such incidents highlight the dangers of pyrotechnics being used in a football stadium."//DPA
