Third-quarter manufacturing index falls 3.6%

The Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) has announced that the domestic Manufacturing Production Index (MPI) for the third quarter contracted by 3.6 per cent compared with the same period last year amid 64-per-cent capacity utilisation.
September’s MPI fell by 2.9 per cent, with capacity utilisation at 64.02 per cent, on lower output in the automotive sector after the completion of the deliveries of vehicles sold under last year’s government first-car-buyer scheme, said Industry Ministry permanent secretary Vitoon Simachokdee.
