Meechai urges govt to find technical way to 'kill' amnesty bill

Meechai Ruchupan, former president of a national assembly, Friday urged the coalition to find a way of legal technicality to kill the controversial amnesty bill.

Meechai said if the Senate rejects the bill in the first reading and sends it back to the House, the draft will only be temporarily knocked out and can be revised 180 days later.
Although the government has pledged not to revive it, the people do not believe the administration.
He said the government should brainstorm experts on parliamentary laws how to kill the bill once and for all to pacify the people.
Meechai said the legal experts should be brainstormed to find a legal technicality that could kill the bill.
“Those in parliament should talk because they experts on the meeting regulations,” Meechai said.
He was speaking at press conference held at the Emerald Hotel by the club of former members of post-coup national assemblies.
About 30 members of the club attended a meeting at the hotel and issued a statement that the club had concern for the country regarding to the political situation.
The club called on all sides to avoid violence and called on those who caused the political problems to do something to take responsibility to prevent the situation from escalating into violence.
The club also called on the government to set up a new truth commission to continue the unfinished tasks of bringing about national reconciliation.
