It is being promoted as “NJ Spelling Bee 2013”, a contest organised by Nation Multimedia Group Public Company Limited and Total Access Communication Public Company Limited (DTAC).
Suthichai Yoon, chairman of Nation Multimedia Group and Jon Eddy Abdullah , CEO of DTAC, officially opened the “NJ Spelling Bee” yesterday at the John XXlll Hall Conference Centre, the Suvarnabhumi campus of Assumption University.
The two senior executives discussed the importance of learning English and the value of the NJ Spelling Bee. Jon said that understanding the English language deeply could lift individual potential and help in communication with people all over the world. Knowledge of English was also an advantage in boosting competitiveness and leading to success in business.
In the near future, people of Thailand will be competing with those from many countries as they join the Asean community in the next two years, he said. Suthichai said English was important for the development of human resources in this country and, having the skill for communication internationally, helped ready them to step into the Asean community.
“NJ Spelling Bee” was an example of a medium for unlimited English language learning.
It could be divided into three parts: the first is an application that allows users to learn new vocabularies and practice listening skills and can be played anytime, anywhere, on the iOS operating system, and Android. The application could be downloaded via iTunes and Google Play.
The second part is the “National Spelling Competition Online NJ” – a spelling test programme and virtual competition for secondary and high school students. And the third part is an Online Community, a blog for those who love to study English and want to learn techniques and exchange ideas to grasp English quickly. Experts give tips for English understanding with various ideas. For more information: www.njspellinbee.net and how to become the winner of a special prize from Dtac.
“NJ Spelling Bee2013” – besides promoting new media – will include a spelling word contest for students in the central region of Thailand, as it has for 16 years. Winners in the race will get a Royal Cup trophy from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with a scholarship for an English summer course in Australia for four weeks.
Lersan Kenikanont, assistant market manager from Nation Junior Magazine said this spelling test focused on young people who would be the nation’s strength in the future, and would improve their English. Also selected for this race were students with high scores from exams online. The race would help to develop listening skills, spelling and writing. An “NJ Spelling Bee “ application would develop their potential most effectively.
