Former EC member's sentence upheld in payhike case

The Court of Appeals Tuesday upheld a suspended jail term handed to former election commissioner Prinya Nakchudtree for jointly approving a pay hike for himself and three other Election Commission members during their term in 2004.

A lower court convicted the four commissioners in 2010. The convictions brought each a two-year jail term, suspended for two years.
Two of the commissioners, Prinya and Virachai Naewboonnien, decided to appeal. Virachai later passed away and his case was dropped.
After the Court of Appeals read out its verdict, Prinya vowed to petition to the Supreme Court.
