Former drafters of 1997 charter tell Constitutional Court amendments not unconstitutional

Nine former drafters of the 1997 charter Monday sent an open letter to the nine Constitutional Court judges that charter amendments on the qualifications and elections of senators are not unconstitutional.

The nine former charter drafters said the 1997 charter also required senators to be elected and the elections of senators were not an act that would topple an elected government as alleged by those who filed petitions against charter amendments.
The nine sent their open letter to the judge two days before the court would announce its ruling on the amendments.
The nine said the judges should make their judgement in accordance with the intention and provisions of the charter instead of making a ruling in a way that would create carnage.
