Students' group file complaint with NACC against PM, 312 MPs, senators

The Students and People Network for Thailand's Reform (STR) on Thursday filed a petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) House speaker, Senate speaker and 312 other parliamentarians.

The petition was submitted to the NACC by coordinator Uthai Yodmanee and the group’s legal adviser, Puangtip Boonsanong.
The group alleged that t Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Parliament President Somsak Kiatsuranont, Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatpanich and 312 other MPs and senators, who proposed the charter amendment on the composition of the Senate, had wrongfully carried out their duty.
The petition was submitted to Withaya Akhompithak deputy secretary-general of the NACC.
Withaya said NACC would examine all the documents submitted and verify them.
At this juncture, five impeachment petitions have been submitted and the NACC ruled to combine the five into a single case.
In the first petition, a group of three senators requested for criminal proceedings against 308 MPs and senators for lapse of duty by sponsoring the amendment.
The second petition was related to the wrongful voting proceedings in which certain MPs used electronic cards of fellow lawmakers to cast votes in their absence, hence skewing the results.
The third petition was submitted by Democrat MPs requesting the impeachment of Parliament President Somsak Kiatsuranont on ground of lapse supervision of the voting procedures.
The fourth petition, also filed by the Democrat MPs, requested for the impeachment of Senate Speaker Nikom Wairatpanij in his capacity as Vice Parliament President, charging the same offence involving Somsak.
The fifth petition, filed by a number of senators, made the same request as the fourth one.
