Thai Webmaster Association, the Thai e-Commerce Association, and the Digital Advertising Association (Thailand) said the blackout, allegedly caused by anti-government protesters who temporarily occupied CAT’s offices on Chaeng Wattana Road yesterday, tarnished Thailand’s image and hurt local and foreign investor confidence in the government’s ability to protect important computer assets.
They called on government to investigate the incident at CAT and hold those involved responsible for any damage they had caused. The associations also criticised government agencies for not having a computer security system in place that could protect computer networks and the Internet from unpredictable attacks.
Computer systems and Internet servers were shut down yesterday causing huge damage to online businesses, including websites, electronic commerce, and digital advertising, the associations said.
As a result of the blackout, domestic and overseas e-commerce transactions could not be completed and communication channels for a number of operators were cut.
