Tambon Kham Thao Administration Organisation’s former garbage-collectors Sap Mombao, 56; Wathee Wongthi, 50; and Thongchai Homklin, 45; were arrested on September 19 for allegedly possessing the 198 yaba pills and nine cellphones that were found in their garbage truck while they were entering the Nakhon Phanom prison to collect trash.
Earlier this month, the public prosecutor decided not to try them after the Crime Victims’ Assistance Club provided information to Provincial Police Region 4 chief Anuchai Lekbamrung leading to the arrest of two members of the prison drug network, who later confessed to putting these items in the truck without the collectors’ knowledge.
Wathee said the Bt200 per day compensation paid by the prison was not enough to mend their shattered self-worth and health impacts.
