A foreign student from Thailand drowned

A foreign student from Thailand has drowned while swimming at a beach in Sydney's eastern suburbs, the Northern Star online reported Sunday.

Emergency services were called to Maroubra Beach at 1.30am on Sunday after reports that a man had disappeared in the water.
Police officers and PolAir launched a search for the man and a short time later he was pulled from the water.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate him and he was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital where the 23-year-old was pronounced dead.
A police officer was also taken to hospital for treatment and was later released.
