Pol Maj-General Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ake said the bridge area had been a centre of traffic congestion complaints during rush hours because many motorists opted to use it instead of the Rama VIII Bridge to avoid a rally site.
To deal with traffic problems related to the political rallies in Bangkok, Jirasan said he added more officials to handle calls via the hotline 1197, because calls had risen 30-40 per cent during this period – mostly from motorists wanting to know about blocked roads and alternative routes. Other complaints included law violations such as vehicles parking in prohibited zones, street racing and reckless drivers, he added.
