The monk, who is leading the protest at the Government Complex, made the decision after Natthawut Phothisaro, deputy permanent secretary for Foreign Affairs Ministry, and Consular Department chief Thongchai Chasawat met him.
The two senior officials asked the monk to allow 90 private firm officials, in charge of issuing passports, to return to work at the Consular Department in three shifts.
The two explained to the monk that the Consular Department is the centre of online network for printing passports and the department is capable of printing 8,000 passports a day while each of its branch could print only 3,000 passports a day.
The two said only the officials would return to work without allowing the public to contact the department for services.
