Government deputy spokeswoman Sunisa Lertpakawat said the Cabinet extended the limited free train and bus services for another three months, from May 1 to July 31. The free transport measures are set to expire on April 30. The limited free bus rides apply to some Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) services, and to certain carriages on third-class trains to all regions.
The caretaker Cabinet has to forward the issue to the Election Commission (EC) for approval.
The measures began in 2008 during the administration of the late former prime minister Samak Sundaravej to assist low-income earners.
