The Senate on Friday voted to approve Deputy Permanent Secretary for Commerce Supa Piyajitti as a new commissioner of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC).
In 20-minute secret meeting, 122 voted for, 19 voted against her and four abstains. Supa replaced Jaidet Pornchaiya who had reached the retirement age of 70.
Her candidacy was proposed for the Senate approval by NACC’s selection committee.
While serving as head of the subcommittee scrutinizing the government’s controversial rice-pledging scheme, Supa was known for her audacious move in uncovering evidence of corruption in the controversial scheme. She was sacked from the chairperson’s post afterwards.
