Malaysian premier, minister trade jibes over World Cup `fever'

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak Friday turned down a light-hearted request for sick leave from his youth and sports minister, who claimed he was ill after watching the opening game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, a news report said.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jalamuddin Abu Bakar tweeted Najib soon after the match at around dawn local time to say that he had a fever and that his body ached.
"Sorry I can't go to work today, I will send the medical certificate slip tomorrow," Khairy tweeted in Malay to Najib.
Najib ignored the plea, however, and tweeted back in English: "@KhairyKJ glad you felt well enough to come for cabinet meeting."
Khairy joined nearly 1,000 people to watch the opening game of the World Cup between Brazil and Croatia on a giant screen installed in front of a park in Kuala Lumpur, the state-run Bermana news agency reported.
