Newly-appointed NLA members start work

Members of the National Legislative Assembly, who were formally appointed on Thursday evening, reported to work on Friday.
Former Senator Tuang Anthachai was the first arrive at the Parliament. HM the King endorsed 200 figures, mostly military officers, as members of the NLA on Thursday evening.
Somporn Thepsitta could be named president of the inaugural NLA meeting on August 7, as he is the most senior member.
Senate secretary general Norarat Pimsen said Friday her office will look into reports that Gen Thawatchai Samutsakorn may not qualify for NLA membership as he used to be a member of Chat Pattana Party. The check will not take long and the result would be reported to the junta soon.
NLA member Somjet Boonthan expressed confidence the Assembly would nominate junta chief Gen Prayuth Chanocha as the interim prime minister.
Somjet, a former senator, said Prayuth has already been working as the PM for the past two months and his performance was well accepted by Thais.
