The arrests stemmed from complaints by three Indian businessmen, one of whom was reportedly rescued by passing soldiers.
Sangwal, 45; Sathaporn Thongprai, 37; and Amnat Khungsaichon, 51; reportedly confessed to having extorted money from some 50 Indians, each time receiving between Bt10,000 and Bt20,000.
The three men – who are facing charges of extortion, illegal detention, assault and carrying weapons in a public place – were brought to Ratchadapisek Criminal Court yesterday morning to apply for a 12-day detention order pending investigation.
