"Men often dream of sex and aggression, women tend to dream of household items and clothing," says Michael Schredl, who should know: the professor works as the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim, Germany.
Also, in men's dreams, unknown people appear more often, whereas in women's dreams, trusted people are more likely to appear, adds Hans-Guenter Weess, head of the Interdisciplinary Sleep Centre at Pfalzklinikum, a psychiatric clinic in Germany.
In children's dreams, animals are often likely to appear, says Schredl in a summing up of recent experimental research.
