Toxic gas in water-treatment plant kills three

Toxic gas at a water-treatment factory in Nakhon Pathom has killed three workers and seriously injured three others, ongoing police investigation revealed.

The tragedy took place on Tuesday when a motor inside the water-treatment pond malfunctioned, prompting the workers to jump into the water to take a look.

The first worker to go into the pond quickly lost consciousness because the water in the pond contained some toxic gases. When his colleagues saw what happened, they rushed in to help but also lost consciousness. In the end, three of the workers died, while three others were seriously injured.

The pond is about a metre wide, a metre long and 1.5 metres deep.

Preliminary investigation suggested that victims died of drowning and exposure to toxic gas. Police will look into the case further to see if anybody should be charged.
