Bt10 bn to be spent to tackle flooding in Sukhothai: Prayuth

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said Friday night his Cabinet will allocate some Bt10 billion from the Fiscal Year 2014 budget to tackle flooding in Sukhothai's Kong Krasi Lat district.

Speaking during his weekly TV programme, Prayuth said he had visited the district to study the problems and take notes of resolutions proposed by the governor and local people.

He said a water management plan for the area would be submitted to the Cabinet by the end of this month.

"For immediate action, a FY2014 budget of about 10 billion Baht from the previous administration will be reallocated to mitigate flood disaster in Yom River basin and other area," Prayuth said.

He said the money would be spent for accelerating water drainage from the main river to the Kaem Ling, and dredging the river to speed up drainage and store water in deep retention areas.
