British hiker dies in Everest region

Kathmandu (dpa) - A British hiker died Monday of altitude sickness in the Everest region, police said.

The 49-year-old woman was returning from the Everest Base Camp when she died while at an altitude of 4,500 metres, said Bhanubhakta Nepal, a police officer based in Solukhumbu district.
"She was in a team of 12 British hikers. Her daughter was also with her when she died," said the officer.
Nepal said the body was airlifted to Kathmandu's Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
Nepal said she had suffered from respiratory problems for an hour before dying.
