Cambodia sent the protest note to the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh on October 3. The note identified two incidents. In the first, on September 28, Thai soldiers allegedly shot two Cambodian villagers who were cutting trees near An Mah pass.
The second took place the following day near the eastern side of the Preah Vihear Temple when a Khmer soldier was shot dead during the fighting between Thai and Khmer troops.
Russ said the Thai foreign ministry will cross check the allegations with the authorities concerned.
“The foreign ministry would be pleased if the Cambodian side could send it more information so that the investigation into the case would be clearer,” he said. The investigation will take a while, he added.
Meanwhile an informed source said the Suranaree Task Force informed the ministry that the second incident had not taken place in the area as claimed by Phnom Penh.
