New parliament delayed by almost a year

The construction of the new parliament building is set to be delayed as only 8 per cent of the work has been done so far, National Legislative Assembly (NLA) President Pornpetch Vichitcholchai said after visiting the riverside site yesterday in the Kiak K

The construction is now expected to be completed by the end of 2016, although when the new site can become operational is still unclear, Pornpetch said.
The construction was earlier scheduled to be completed by 2015.
The NLA president is also asking the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to relocate a proposed bridge across Chao Phraya River, currently planned close to the site of the new building, as it would obstruct the view of the parliament.
A letter stating the objection has been sent to the BMA and it is not clear yet how the Bangkok administration will react.
