Apple is expected to introduce its latest iPad during the event.
The tech website Recode had already announced the date last week.
"It's been way too long," the invitation reads.
While the media invitation did not say what would be discussed, it is expected that in addition to the new tablet Apple may also introduce its latest desktop operating system OS X Yosemite and possibly a new iMac computer at the special event, the reports said.
The Cupertino, California-based company introduced the most recent iPad models in October 2013 and sales of the gadget have been slipping.
In a separate development the dispute between activist investor Carl Icahn and Apple's management resurfaced. Icahn sent a tweet saying he will send a message to Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook on Thursday that "will be interesting." Icahn had a public battle with Apple over the amount of cash the company has accumulated.
A year ago he said he believed shares of Apple stock were extremely undervalued and pushed for a larger stock buyback to help boost earnings. He also revealed he held a "large position" in Apple. That stake grew to 4.4 billion dollars as of May, the website appleinsider.com said.
