The reform will be carried out jointly by the Interior and Information and Communications Technology ministries and will be used in three areas for long-term implementation, namely the economy, social issues and environment conservation, ICT Minister Pornchai Rujiprapa said.
This reform is in line with the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan, which runs from 2012 to 2017, in order to solve problems about inaccuracy of information surveyed and collected by various government agencies.
For instance, Pornchai said, information about flooded areas and farmland under government compensatory schemes were different in several tens of thousands of rai, which made the evaluation of damages and compensation much more difficult.
Based on a recommendation by the National Statistical Office, which will be supervising the reform, shared government database units would be inspected and readjusted according to a single criteria in 76 provinces except Bangkok. These provinces will be divided into 18 groups according to different profiles such as economic and geographic conditions, Pornchai said.
As part of the seminar, Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda will meet Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula to discuss work on information regarding farmland and flooded areas, which will later be used when implementing zoning of farmland. Details of the event were not available as of press time yesterday.
