Park chief cleared of activist murder

The Phetchaburi Provincial Court has dismissed a lawsuit against Kaeng Krachan National Park chief Chaiwat Limlikit-aksorn and four others for their alleged involvement in the murder of local activist Thatkamon Ob-om.

The finding was on grounds the evidence was circumstantial and not sufficiently convincing of the defendants’ guilt. After hearing the verdict, Chaiwat said he was glad to get justice and that he and his subordinates would continue to work hard.
The 55-year-old former Pheu Thai candidate Thatkamon – who had been helping Karen people who were evicted from the park area – was shot dead while driving his truck in Ban Lad district on September 10, 2011. Chaiwat, implicated along with four others in the murder, turned himself in to police and was granted bail by the court in October 2011.
