Malaysian woman charged for attempting to support Islamic State

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2014

Kuala Lumpur (dpa) - A Malaysian woman on Friday was charged in court with attempting to support Islamic State militants in the Middle East, a deputy prosecutor said.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on October 5 while attempting to board a flight to Brunei, according to deputy prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin.
Wan Shaharuddin said the suspect was charged for violating the country's Security Offences Act of 2012 for attempting to provide support to a terrorist group, a crime punishable by up to 15 years' imprisonment.
From Brunei she was planning to fly to Istanbul and then head to Syria and marry a Malaysian Islamic State militant, Wan Shaharuddin said.
The woman did not enter a plea, and the Sessions Court in Sepang town in the outskirt of Kuala Lumpur set the trial to start on November 20.
Last week, three Malaysian men, including an architect, were charged with the same offence.
